What is your background, how did you become a holistic health/ nutrition counselor?

I love cookies. I am an expert at eating cookies. I am so good at it that I spent six years as a professional cookie and pie taster. Sounds like a pretty good job, doesn't it?

It WAS a great job…for awhile…but there was this other piece of me that loved being seen as the "healthy" person. This new vocation was incongruent with that healthy image, so I needed to find a way to justify the contradiction. The solution came fast...the cookies I ate for work simply didn't count. What a brilliant mechanism! Soon this translated into "the cookies at the bottom of the bag don't count...broken cookies don't count...if I didn't really like it, it didn't count." As you can imagine I was spinning out of control essentially eating behind my own back. Eventually I started to suffer the consequences-gaining weight, feeling bad about my body, becoming anti-social, negative, worried, stressed, anxious, sleepless, depressed, unmotivated, and lackluster. Where was that smiling, sparkly, happy person I used to be? Clearly, I was in denial but I couldn't ignore it anymore. Who wants to believe that something so sweet and delicious could be detrimental and destructive? I had to find out.

That’s what catalyzed the two week Kick Sugar Challenge. It was difficult, it certainly wasn’t a piece of cake so to speak. Sugar is addictive, and what that means is that when you stop eating it, you experience withdrawal. Withdrawal can be painful! But I was committed, I was CURIOUS about what would happen if I engaged in the experience of feeling what I was feeling rather than “numbing out” with sugar as I had done for years. Even after only two weeks, the impact of not eating sugar (or any sugar additives) was so profound, it affected every area of my life-the quality of my work, the connectedness I felt to myself and others, my skin, my sleep, my digestion, the worry and anxiety went away and I began to reclaim my personal sparkle.

This experience was so incredible I had to spread the word. I invited about 25 friends to join me on a two week sugar challenge. 23/ 25 succeeded with similar results as me. Not only did it create such a dramatic shift in our energy, moods, mind and body to get off of sugar, but we also found out that when we ate it again, we immediately suffered the consequences. The choice became easy. It wasn’t about saying no to sugar, it was about saying YES to a grander version of ourselves. YES to engaging more fully in the experience of being alive.

I still love birthday cake, but I eat it so much more mindfully, I am able to truly enjoy it, minus the guilt. So it is my mission to help my clients get really honest about their relationship to food, and to help them make the connection between what they eat and how they feel. Who will benefit best from one of your programs and what is expected of the client?
I love working with people who are excited about trying something new, who are ready to show up for themselves and take responsibility for having the BEST life ever.

 

Who is NOT likely to benefit from your programs?
Those looking for a quick fix, and who are not willing to follow through. This program is probably not appropriate for you if you are clinging to excuses, or if you are expecting me to do all the work. I want to work with people who are ready to make a health a priority, who are open to the inquiry into their self-destructive habits, and who are looking for a fresh perspective.  If you are motivated and excited, I can help you get out of your own way, part the clouds of self-sabotage, and make the process simple and easy. This is not an ordinary program or diet, we will not be counting calories or grams of fat, rather it is about building your intuition about what works best for your unique body so you can engage in the experience of being fully ALIVE.

 

How can I guarantee to get the most out of the program and reach my goals?
Obviously, much of your success depends on you. There is no quick fix. The best way to ensure results is to be honest about what is working and what is not, to follow the recommendations and to show up to all your sessions on time.

 

I'm not sure if I can afford the monthly payments right now do you offer extended payment plans?
Yes! We offer extended payment plans based on individual needs. If you truly want to be engaged in one of our programs we will find a way to work it out! Contact us for possibilities. 

 

Can I do one or two sessions and see if I like it?
You can "test-drive" our counseling style by signing up for an initial consultation. This is a great way to see what it's like to work with me as an integrative nutrition counselor. Implementing lasting change takes time. This is a gradual process. Each session builds on the last, in a progression. If you are honest, follow the recommendations, and show up you will experience positive results. I invite you to be completely authentic with me throughout the program. I pull from a deep bag of tricks so if something isn't working for you, we will re-evaluate our approach and customize the program to best support you.

Starting a program like this does take a risk and a commitment, but don't worry, I am here to hold your hand, remind you that you can do this, and also to provide you with a structure to be accountable within the framework of your life. Being healthy doesn't have to zap all your energy or take up your time, quite the opposite!
