Day 14 of my spring cleanse.
Well, I can't lie, the first week was brutal, the cleanse is EASY to follow, I wasn't hungry at all, but I felt angry!

Apparently, when one is de-toxing a lot comes to the surface. I kept thinking, is this worth it?

I curiously observed the chatter in my mind, coming up with a million reasons to not follow through: my regular diet is so good I don't "need" to cleanse...but inside of me I wondered what would happen if I followed through? How healthy and light could I be? How might that affect my daily life?

Day 7-14 I felt FANTASTIC! So much energy, falling in love with everyone around me, appreciating the simple beauty and awe of life and so proud of myself for moving through that initial resistance.

It was so worth it, but if I hadn't worked through that initial resistance I wouldn't have gotten to experience the reward.

I have a client with "rebellious inner child syndrome." If you tell her don't eat that bag of cookies, she will eat the entire bag and then buy some more. Is this you?

It is natural that when we hear "don't" we want to rebel. The mind does not want to be re-trained, but it is important to recognize when this rebellion is destructive to our health.

Re-training the mind takes repetition of healthy habits. At first, the new way may seem challenging, we may get angry, feel upset or irritable, get sick or exhausted...but over time we realize it is actually easier to stop resisting, that being healthy does not have to take up all our time and energy, that the rewards from treating ourselves well FAR outweigh the short-lived pleasure of rebelling just because "we can."

12 Ways To Be Bad

Is your rebellious inner child holding you back from the healthiest version of you?

If so, then this is your assignment:
Come up with a list of things you can do to be "bad" that are not actually destructive to your health.
rebellious inner child

Here are some of mine to get you started:

1.
Cut the "DO NOT REMOVE" tag from your mattress.

2. Eat dinner for breakfast and breakfast for dinner.

3. Give your kid a mo-hawk without telling your spouse.

4. Play hookie from everything-phone, work, email, making the bed...

5.
Draw a mustache on a poster.

6.
Go to the movies one hour early and sneak into the other theaters to watch the end of the other movies.

7.
Don't wear underwear for a day.

8.
Go through the express lane at the grocery store with more than 10 items.

9. Offer a
friend vanilla ice cream but instead give them a scoop of mashed potatoes on a  cone.

10.
Make up a personality and introduce yourself to a stranger without breaking character.

11.
Try washing something that says "dry clean only" (be careful with this one-I have certainly gotten myself in trouble with this defiance!)

12.
Crank call your mom.

The Rebellious Child Contest!
Email me your favorite non-self-destructive ways of nurturing your inner brat. The full list will be posted in two weeks, and you will have a chance to cast your vote for the top 5 ways of "being bad." Winners and *prizes* will be announced in the next issue of Nourishing News.
