Healthy Eating On-the-Go

snack attack
Is the chaos of your life de-railing your health efforts?

Staying healthy on-the-go is not always easy. See if one of these profiles matches you. Try out these SIMPLE solutions, you just might be surprised how easy it is and how much more energy you'll have by making a few small changes in your daily routine.

Client #1: The Morning Dash and Crash
It's 8:30am, you've got a meeting across town in thirty minutes, you ponder just "eating" coffee for breakfast and dealing with the hunger. By 11am you are tired, foggy, unfocused, grumpy and impatient. Breakfast is how you start your day! So, start implementing one of these tips to set yourself up for a GREAT day.

Stacey Recommends:

If it's just unrealistic for you to get up 20 minutes earlier so you can enjoy a decent breakfast, plan ahead the night before and bring it with you.
Suggestions:

    • hard boiled egg
    • make a smoothie in a jar with a lid. Shake and swig on the way.
    • put a banana on top of your bag
    • a small yogurt
    • Amazake (an almond beverage found at your local health food store)

Client #2: Four o'clock Slump Munch
According to Dr. Christine Northrup-around 4pm the part of our energy system known as the "emotional body" becomes most active, causing us to crash. For this reason, and also because of inadequate nutrient intake during the day, many people experience a SNACK ATTACK pick-me-up in the late afternoon. While it may be tempting to go for another cup of coffee, try energizing with a more nutritional form of energy. Your adrenals will thank you.

Stacey Recommends:

    • Drink Water! We often think we're hungry when we're really thirsty.
    • Lara Bar-made with dried fruit and nuts
    • Apple and Almond butter-the protein and fat slows down the fruit sugars while giving you a boost of energy.
    • Carrots and Hummus
    • Yerba Mate or green tea
    • Kombucha drink
    • A dose of sunlight
    • Small piece of DARK chocolate (70%)

Client #3: Life is Crazy Snack Attack!
Your task is to SLOW DOWN. Many of my clients say they turn to food when they are stressed out, it helps them calm down, numb out, sometimes it is a distraction from work, even when they are not actually hungry. If you are constantly moving at warp speed and living in a stress state, you may be prone to making food choices on the go that don't support your best health. Sometimes food is not the answer, you may be craving a "Primary Food." Primary food is nourishment that doesn't come on your plate, in this case things like relaxation and sleep. You may think you don't have time for these things, but see if you can incorporate these easy-on-the-go "foods."

Stacey Recommends:

    • Take a "bite size" power nap. You may be thinking, "but I don't have time to take naps!" Just because you work more hours doesn't mean you are getting more done. Rejuvenate yourself, you'll be able to work smarter instead of harder.
    • Savor 10 deep, nourishing breaths wherever you are-don't underestimate the calming power of this comfort food.
    • Engage the senses. Smell flowers or listen to one of your favorite songs to release some stress.
