My sweetie, Gregory, a budding neuroscientist, just sent this out this morning to the family and I wanted to share it with you all. I can vouch for what a profound effect meditation has had on his mental clarity, focus, and energy. There are many forms of meditation, start simple, do what feels natural, just do it regularly!

Beloved family,

I've started doing 30 min meditations in the morning and I wanted to share the experience. There seems to be a significant amount of indescribable peace and power gained from the practice.

Here is how I do it:
I sit on something comfortable on the floor IE a pillow or our fabulous new sheep skin rug....upright posture, one hand held in the other. I then relax into my senses.  Whether it be the colors, contrast or peripheral vision of my surroundings,..the sounds of the city in the background, or the sensation of air entering my nostrils. I'll sometimes breath long slow breaths to engage my sense of smell and activate the parasympathetic (relaxation side) of the autonomic nervous system.

When thoughts arise I identify them as such and let them go...no resistance or trying, just being.

The reason I've started doing this is because life seems to be going byvery fast of late and I've found that absorbing myself with the present (andreducing the random mental chatter) has been helping me to savor themoment and keep things in perspective.

There are also real physiological effects/benefits. I won't cite the extensive literature, but mom and I did a little experiment of our own last year where we measured her blood pressure, meditated for 15 min and then measured it again. Needless to say there was a significant drop, and that was just her first time!If 30min sounds like a long time, try 15.

With much Love and many hugs,

Gregory
